In 1980-81, CHICO RESCH was traded from the New York Islanders to the Colorado Rockies. It was a shock to the goaltender who had helped the Islanders win a Stanley Cup in 1979-80. He went from the high-flying Islanders, who had finished in first place overall, to Colorado, who finished fifth in the Smythe Division. But CHICO rebounded with a very good season backstopping the lowly Rockies in 1981-82. He started 61 of his team's 80 games, and although the team finished in last place overall, RESCH had worked hard with the young team, gave them confidence in their own end and finished with a respectable 4.03 goals-against average. For his perseverance, CHICO RESCH was presented with 1981-82's MASTERTON TROPHY.
