By 1978-79, SERGE SAVARD had played 10 exceptional seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, winning seven Stanley Cups. The trio of Larry Robinson, Guy Lapointe and SERGE SAVARD was considered by many to be among the best defense troikas in the history of the NHL. A Montreal native, SAVARD brought a physical game to the ice every time he played. At 6'3" and 210 pounds, that would hardly be surprising. In 1978-79, SAVARD contributed 33 scoring points to the Canadiens attack. But it was his defensive work that most helped Montreal clinch first place in the Norris Division. And the momentum didn't stop there. The Canadiens won the Stanley Cup, the eighth and final of SERGE SAVARD's career. For his dedication to hockey, SERGE SAVARD was awarded the MASTERTON TROPHY for 1978-79 season.
