Look up the word 'classy' in the dictionary and you'll find the photo of JEAN RATELLE. A 20-year veteran of NHL wars, RATELLE played an intense and effective game, yet did so with few penalty minutes earned. The centre of New York Rangers' most historically potent line between Vic Hadfield and Rod Gilbert, RATELLE scored 26 goals and 46 assists for 72 points in 1970-71. It was the fourth consecutive season that RATELLE would score 20 or more goals, and one of 14 he would earn during his career. For his lifelong dedication to strong, clean hockey, JEAN RATELLE would be awarded the MASTERTON TROPHY for 1970-71. During his Hall of Fame career, JEAN RATELLE scored 1,267 points split between the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins, who he joined in a trade in November 1975. JEAN was a two-time Lady Byng winner during his career, won the Pearson Award as the NHL's most valuable player in 1972 and was a Second Team All-Star that same season.
