Danton Heinen was born on July 5, 1995 in Langley, British Columbia. A product of the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL, he was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins and would go on to attend the University of Denver.

Following his sophomore collegiate season Heinen signed with the Bruins and made his professional debut for the clubís AHL affiliate in Providence to finish the 2015-16 season. Heinen surprised many when he cracked Bostonís opening night lineup to start the 2016-17 season. He would suit in eight games before being returned to Providence. In 64 games at the AHL level Heninen scored 14 times and added 30 assists. Heinen would establish himself as a full-time NHL during his second professional season. In 77 games for the Bruins he scored 16 times and added 31 assists for 47 points while helping Boston to a second place finish in the Atlantic Division.
