Jordan Martinook was born on July 25, 1992 in Brandon Manitoba. The product of the Vancouver Giants was drafted in the second round, 58th overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

After two seasons with the Giants, the Coyotes would assign him to play for their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. While playing almost three full seasons with the Pirates, Martinook would make his NHL debut on December 6, 2014 in a 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins.

The 2015-16 season would be Martinook's first full NHL campaign. In 81 games for the Coyotes he scored nine times and 15 assists. The following season Martinook reached the 10-goal mark for the first time in his career. He finished the season with 11 and added 14 assists for 25 points.

On May 3, 2018, Martinook's time in Arizona would come to an end. He was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Marcus Kruger.
