Marcel Mueller was born July 10, 1988 in East Berlin, East Germany. A standout in his homeland for Kölner Haie of the DEL, the big winger was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 14, 2010.

Mueller made his North American debut in the American Hockey League for the Toronto Marlies during the 2010-11 season. In 57 games he recorded 14 goals and 19 assists and received his first taste of NHL action in 2011. In total he would suit up for three games for the Leafs during the 2010-11 season

In the summer of 2012, after a second season the American Hockey League, Mueller signed as an unrestricted free agent with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League.
