Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Vladimir Tarasenko
Vladimir Tarasenko born December 13, 1991 in Yaroslavl, Russia. A standout junior in his homeland, Tarasenko captained Russia to a gold medal at the 2011 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He joined Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL in 2008 and spent three seasons there before being traded to SKA Saint Petersburg in 2012. Tarasenko was drafted in the first round, sixteenth overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

In the summer of 2012, Tarasenko announced that he would be coming to North America to play in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues rather than stay and play in the KHL. His debut was delayed however due to the NHL lockout and he instead returned to SKA to play with the newly acquired Ilya Kovalchuk.

When play began in the NHL, Tarasenko started the 2012-13 NHL season with the Blues. He scored his first and second goals on the first two shots of his NHL career against the Detroit Red Wings in a 6-0 blowout. Tarasenko finished his first NHL season with eight goals and 11 assists in 38 games and was named January's Rookie of the Month.

Tarasenko would establish himself as one of the NHL's premier offensive players during the 2014-15 season. In 77 games for the Blues, he posted 37 goals and 73 points. He followed that up with a 74-point season in 2015-16 season, which included 40 goals.

On the international stage, Tarasenko has represented his native Russia numerous times. This is highlighted by a fourth place appearance at the 2011 IIHF World Championships and a fifth place finish at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
