Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Nino Niederreiter
Nino Niederreiter was born in Chur, Switzerland on September 8, 1992. He was selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, making him the highest-drafted Swiss hockey player in NHL history.

When Niederreiter cracked the Islanders opening night lineup for the 2010-11 season, he became the youngest player to ever suit up for the club at just 18 years and 31 days. After just nine games with the big club, Niederreiter would be returned to the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. He would go on the record a team-best 41 goals in just 55 games.

On June 30, 2013, Niederreiter was traded to the Minnesota Wild for Cal Clutterbuck and a third round draft pick. In Minnesota, Niderreiter was given full time work in the NHL as he would play in 80 game or more in his first two seasons with the Wild.

On the international stage, Niederreiter has represented his native Switzerland eight times which are high lighted by three trips to the World Championships (2010, 2012-2013), and an appearance at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Niederreiter would set new career-highs in goals, assists and points during the 2015-16 season, finishing the year with 20, 23, and 43 respectively. It would also mark the second consecutive time he would reach the 20-goal plateau. Niederreiter would eclipse those totals the following season, finding the back of the net 25 times, while adding 32 assists for 57 points.

On January 17, 2019, Niederreiter's time in Minnesota would come to an end. He was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Victor Rask.
