Scott Timmins was born on September 11, 1989 in Hamilton, Ontario. A product of the Ontario Hockey League where he played for the Kitchener Rangers and Windsor Spitfires, Timmins was selected by the Florida Panthers in the 6th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Timmins made his professional debut in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans in 2010 and was soon promoted to the NHL. He got his first taste of NHL action on February 1, 2011. In total Timmins would appear in 19 games for the Panthers during the 2010-11 season, recording his first NHL goal along the way.
