Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Corban Knight
Corban Knight was born on September 10, 1990 in Oliver, British Columbia. The 6’2 centre was drafted in the fifth round, 134th overall, by the Florida Panthers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Knight was expecting to continue to play his junior hockey in Alberta, however he had an opportunity to continue his hockey development by playing for the University of North Dakota while continuing his education.

With the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux, Knight would win three Broadmoor Trophies as WCHA Playoff Champions. During his sophomore season he set a school record for faceoff efficiency with 59.9 percent beating Zach Parise. In his final year he was named to the NCAA West Region All-Tournament Team and named to the second team for both the ALL-WCHA and All-American teams. He was also a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award which was eventually won by Drew LeBlanc.

After graduating, the Panthers were not able to come to a contract agreement with Knight. In order to avoid losing him to unrestricted free agency, the Panthers traded Knight to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fourth round draft choice. The Flames immediately assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat where he excelled to the point the Flames would give him a taste of the NHL. He would make his NHL debut on March 5, 2014 in a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Seven days later, Knight would score his first NHL goal in a 7-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

During the 2014-15 season, Knight was returned to the AHL to play for the Flames new affiliate, the Adirondack Flames. On January 9, 2015, Knight was drafted back to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Drew Shore where the Panthers would assign Knight to their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. During the 2015-16 season the Knight would start the season remaining in the AHL, this time with the Portland Pirates.
