Jakob Silfverberg was born on October 13, 1990 in Gävle, Sweden. A standout for Brynäs of the Swedish Elite League, he was selected in second round, 39th overall of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.

On the international stage Silfverberg represented Sweden at the 2010 World Junior Championships as well as the 2011 IIHF World Championship, where he earned a a silver medal.

Silfverberg would make his NHL debut during the 2012 playoffs. He would suit up for the Senators for two games during their first round series against the New York Rangers. Following the Senators elimination he would once again represent Sweden at the World Championships, scoring two goals in 8 games.

On July 5, 2013, Silfverberg was traded along with Stefan Noesen and a first round draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Bobby Ryan. During the 2015-16 season, Silfverberg would record the first 20 goal season of his career. He would also add 19 assists and his 39 points also matched his career-best. Silfverberg's offensive contribution would continue for the Ducks during the 2016-17 campaign. In 79 games, he found the back of the net 23 times and added 26 assists for 49 points.

On the international stage Silfverberg helped his homeland to the silver medal at both the 2011 World Championship and the 2014 Olympic Games.
