Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Marcus Johansson
Marcus Johansson was born on October 6, 1990 in Landskrona, Sweden. A standout in his homeland, Johansson was selected in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.

Johansson made his North American debut for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League before being summoned to the NHL in 2010. He'd see action in 69 games for the Capitals during the 2010-11 season, scoring 13 goals.

Johansson appeared in 80 games for the Capitals during 2011-12, establishing himself as a bonafide and reliable NHL centreman. The following season he set a career high with 36 points, and backed that up with a new career high in goals with 20 in 2014-15.

In 2016-17, Johansson would notch 58 points in 82 games. It would prove to be his final season in Washington however. On July 2, 2017, with the Capitals facing salary cap constraints, the centreman was traded to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a pair of draft picks.

On the international stage, Johansson represented his native Sweden numerous times. This is highlighted by two appearances at the World Junior Championships (2009, 2010) and a silver medal performance at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
