Jared Ross was born on September 18, 1982 in Huntsville, Alabama. Upon making his NHL debut with the Flyers in 2008-09, Ross became the first Alabama native to play in the NHL.

Though he spent the majority of the 2008-09 season with the Phantoms of the AHL, where he led the team in scoring, he appeared in 10 regular season games for the Flyers and all six playoff games. In game three of the Flyers playoff series with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ross scored the first goal of his NHL career, in a 6-3 Flyers win.
