Andrei Loktionov was born on May 30, 1990 in Voskresensk, Russia. A draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 2008, Loktionov made his North American debut in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires in 2008-09, with whom he won the 2009 Memorial Cup.

Loktionov began his professional debut with the Kings' AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, in 2009-10 where his impressive offensive numbers were enough to earn him a single game in the NHL.

In 2011-12 Loktionov was part of the Los Angeles Kings club that stormed through the Western Conference playoffs and defeated the New Jersey Devils to capture the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Traded to New Jersey by Los Angeles for New Jersey's 5th round pick (later traded to Florida, later traded to Buffalo - Buffalo selected Gustav Possler) in 2013 NHL Draft, February 6, 2013. Traded to Carolina by New Jersey with New Jersey's 3rd round pick (Morgan Geekie) in 2017 NHL Draft for Tuomo Ruutu, March 5, 2014. Signed as a free agent by Yaroslavl (KHL), November 28, 2014.
