Brock Trotter was born on January 16, 1987 in Brandon, Manitoba. He played his collegiate hockey at the University of Denver before inking a deal with the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent on February 7, 2008.

After spending time with the Canadiens' AHL affiliate in Hamilton, Trotter would make his NHL debut on February 6, 2010 in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He would go on to appear in just one more game for the Canadiens during the 2009-10 campaign.

In the summer of 2010, Trotter signed a two-year contract with Dinamo Riga of the KHL.
