Jack Hillen was born January 24, 1986 in Portland, Oregon. Undrafted, the former WCHA Colorado College star signed as a free agent with the New York Islanders, April 1, 2008.
An excellent puck-moving defenseman, Hillen capped-off his four year stint at Colorado College by leading the division in scoring by a defenseman. He was named Defenseman of the Year in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for his outstanding 2007-08 campaign. His production in Colorado drew the attention of the Islanders general manager Garth Snow who eventually signed the free agent to a two-year contract in April, 2008. That same season, Hillen made his NHL debut with the Islanders, appearing in a pair of late-season games.
