Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kevin Westgarth
Kevin Westgarth was born on February 7, 1984 in Amherstburg, Ontario. Following a four year collegiate career at the prestigious Princeton University, Westgarth signed an entry level contract with the Los Angeles Kings and was sent to their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, where he would spend the majority of the next three seasons.

In 2008-09, Westgarth would get his first taste of NHL action, appearing in nine games for the Kings. Westgarth's huge stature and physical game make him a natural enforcer.

A hand injury limited the tough Westgarth to just 25 games during the 2011-12 season. The Kings would go on to win the franchise's first Stanley Cup title and because he was on long-term injured reserve, Westgarth was acknowledged as a Stanley Cup winner and had his name engraved on the trophy.

On January 13, 2013, the Kings traded Westgarth to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Anthony Stewart and a pair of draft picks. Westgarth would bring his brand of physical hockey to the Hurricanes for 31 games during the lockout shortened season, scoring twice and adding 45 penalty minutes.

Westgarth's time in Carolina would come to an end early in the 2013-14 season. After appearing in just 12 games, he was traded to the Calgary Flames on December 30, 2013, in exchange for Greg Nemisz.
