David Brine was born January 6, 1985 in Truro, Nova Scotia. Undrafted, the former QMJHL star signed as a free agent with the Florida Panthers on September 14, 1985.

After a short stint with the Manitoba Moose during the 2006 playoffs, Brine split his first full professional season of hockey with the Rochester Americans of the AHL and the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. In 2007-08, Brine appeared in 46 games with Rochester and made his NHL debut on February 2, 2008 Panthers game against Tampa Bay.
