Cody Almond was born on July 24, 1989 in Calgary, Alberta. He spent four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League and was selected 140th overall by the Minnesota Wild at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Almond began his professional career with the Wild's AHL affiliate, the Houston Aeros, in 2009-10 and also got his first taste of NHL action, suiting up in seven games for the Wild.
