Matt Beleskey was born June 7, 1988 in Windsor, Ontario. He began his hockey career in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League with the Collingwood Blues before spending four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Belleville Bulls. Beleskey was drafted 112th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and in his final season with the Bulls, he scored 41 goals and 49 assists for 90 points in just 62 games, leading the team in all scoring categories.
Following this highly productive season, Beleskey signed an entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks in 2008 and spent most of the 2008-09 season in the American Hockey League with the Iowa Chops but did manage to play two regular season games for the Ducks, but failed to register a point.
