Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kyle Okposo
Kyle Okposo was born April 16, 1988 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The first round, 7th overall selection of the New York Islanders in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Okposo honed his skills at Shattuck-St. Mary's before he arrived in the USHL.

A skilled winger, Okposo spent a season competing in the U with the Des Moines Buccaneers, finishing sixth in scoring with 27 goals and 31 assists in 50 games. The Buccaneers won the league championship that season over Sioux Falls and Okposo was named the MVP Clark Cup. After his stint in the USHL, Okposo went on to compete with the University of Minnesota. In his rookie year with the Gophers, Okposo tallied 40 points in as many games and was the team's Rookie of the Year. However, the following season Okposo left the University and reported to the New York Islanders.

Okposo went on to compete in 35 games with the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport and later make his NHL debut in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

During the 2013-14 season Okposo broke out, playing along side star John Tavares, where he scored 27 goals and 69 points in 71 games. This solidified himself in playing on the top line with the Islanders.

In the summer of 2016, Okposo became an unrestricted free agent and signed a multi-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres on July 1. In 65 games for the Sabres in his first season with the club, Okposo scored 19 times. He followed that up with a 15-goal campaign in 2017-18.
