Alex Foster was born August 26, 1984 in Canton, Michigan. Undrafted, foster honed his skills in the USHL with the Danville Wings and Sioux Falls Stampede prior to his arrival at Bowling Green University.

An excellent skating forward, Foster capped off his two year stint at Bowling Green University by registering a team leading 51 points. After being signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 2006, Foster split his first year of pro hockey with the club's AHL and ECHL affiliates in Toronto and Columbia respectively. The following season, Foster made his NHL debut with the Leafs in a March 18, 2008 contest against the New York Islanders.
