Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Martin Hanzal
Martin Hanzal was born February 20, 1987 in Pisek, Czech Republic. The first round, 17th overall selection of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft spent parts of four seasons with Ceske Budejovice in the Czech league.

An offensively gifted centreman, Hanzal arrived in North America and led the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL in points with 85 through 60 games of the 2006-07 season. He made his debut with the Coyotes in 2007-08 and tallied 8 goals, 27 assists for 35 points.

After three seasons with the club, Hanzal was named an alternate captain for the Coyotes on October 8, 2011. He would go on to appear in 64 games for the club during the 2011-12 season, scoring eight times and adding 26 assists.

During the 2013-14 season, Hanzal would set a new career-high with 15 goals. He also added 25 assists to reach the 40 point mark for the first time in his career. Though limited to just 64 games during the 2015-16 season, Hanzal set a new career-high with 41 points.

On the international stage, Hanzal represented his native Czech Republic on numerous occasions including the 2014 Olympic Games and the 2016 World Championship.

On February 26, 2017, Hanzal's time in the Coyotes' organization would come to an end. He was traded along with Ryan White to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a first, a second, a conditional fourth round draft pick and Grayson Downing. He would go on to collect 13 points in 20 regular season games for the Wild. He also suited up in all five of the Wild's post-season contest as the club lost in the first round to the St. Louis Blues.

In the summer of 2017, as an unrestricted free agent, Hanzal signed a three-year deal with the Dallas Stars.
