Scott Parse was born on September 5, 1984 in Portage, Michigan. A product of the University of Nebraska-Omaha system in the NCAA, Parse was selected 174th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL Draft.

Following his collegiate career, Parse joined the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League for the 2006-07 season. The following year he joined the Kings' AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, where he spent the majority of the next three seasons. Finally, in 2009-10 Parse got his first taste of NHL action, appearing in 59 games for the Kings, scoring 11 goals and adding 13 assists.
