Steve Regier was born August 31, 1984 in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The fifth round, 148th overall selection of the New York Islanders in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Regier is a graduate of the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers.

A hulking winger, Regier played three seasons in Medicine Hat registering 76 points (37-39-76) before making his professional debut with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2004-05. The following year the former WHLer continued to hone his skills in the AHL while getting his first taste of the NHL in the latter stages of the season.
