Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Tyler Kennedy
Tyler Kennedy was born July 15, 1986 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The fourth round, 99th overall selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Kennedy spent four seasons competing for his hometown team, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League.

A gifted skater, Kennedy consistently improved his offensive output as a member of the Greyhounds and was known as one of the league's hardest workers. After a season with the Pen's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, the energetic forward appeared in his first NHL game on October 27th and went on to see action in 55 NHL games that year.

In 2008-09, Kennedy continued to provide Pittsburgh with grit and energy. During the Penguins march to the Stanley Cup, he tallied 5 goals in 24 playoff games, 3 of which were game winners and his 3 points in game 6 of the cup final helped force a game 7, a game Pittsburgh would ultimately win.

After six seasons in Pittsburgh, Kennedy was traded to the San Jose Sharks for a second round draft pick at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Kennedy played parts of two seasons in San Jose before he was traded to the New York Islanders for a third round draft pick on March 2, 2015. After he finished the season with the Islanders, Kennedy signed a one year contract with the New Jersey Devils.
