Raymond Sawada was born February 19, 1985 in Richmond, British Columbia. In 2004, he began his collegiate career at Cornell University where he spent the next four seasons, his senior year as co-captain.

A draft pick of the Dallas Stars, Sawada would make his NHL debut on February 19, 2009, his birthday and gave himself a birthday present he will have forever: his first NHL goal. In all, Sawada would play in five games for Dallas in the 2008-09 season, spending the remainder with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
