Jeff Schultz was born February 25, 1986 in Calgary, Alberta. The Capitals' first round, 27th overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Schultz is a graduate of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.
An imposing defenceman, Schultz posted 107 points in his four-year 262-game WHL career with Calgary. He split his first professional season in 2006-07 with the Capitals and their AHL affilaite in Hershey. With the Captails Schultz was third among defencemen in average ice time and although he didn't produce as much offence as expected, he was one of the clubs better defensive defencemen.
