Alexandre Picard was born October 9, 1985 in Les Saules, Quebec. The first round, eighth overall selection of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Picard is a graduate of the QMJHL's Sherbrooke Castors/Lewiston MAINEiacs.

An offensively gifted forward, Picard played four seasons in the QMJHL registering 197 points (93-104-197) before making his professional debut during the 2005-06 season. Picard went on to split his rookie season between Syracuse of the AHL and the parent club in Columbus.

On March 3, 2010, the NHL trade deadline, Picard was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Chad Kolarik.
