Pat Rissmiller was born October 26, 1978 in Belmont, Massachusetts. A free-agent signing of the San Jose Sharks in the summer of 2003, Rissmiller played four seasons with Holy Cross of the MAAC before making his professional debut in 2002-03.

Named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2001-02, Rissmiller was a finalist for the Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born hockey player in New England before signing an AHL contract with the Cleveland Barons. In his first full season as a professional, Rissmiller played two games with the ECHLs Cincinnati Cyclones while spending the majority of the season with Cleveland.

In 2003-04, the Belmont, Massachusetts native spent the majority of the season in the AHL with Cleveland Barons, while seeing limited action with the parent club in San Jose. He became a regular with the club during the 2006-07, appearing in 79 games. The following summer Rissmiller signed with the New York Rangers as an unrestricted free agent.

On August 2, 2010 Rissmiller was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers along with Donald Brashear for Todd White.

After spending the majority of the 2010-11 season in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves, Rissmiller was traded to the Florida Panthers along with Niclas Bergfors in exchange for Radek Dvorak on February 28, 2010.
