Konstantin Pushkarev was born February 12, 1985 in Ust Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. The second round, 44th overall selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Pushkarev honed his skills in his homeland before joining Omsk of the Russian League in 2003-04.

A skilled forward, Pushkarev joined the WHL's Calgary Hitmen in 2004-05, registering 52 points (22-3-52) in his only season with the club. In 2005-06, Pushkarev spent the majority of the season with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs while making his NHL debut with the Kings in the latter stages of the season.
