Tim Ramholt was born November 2, 1984 in Zurich, Switzerland. The second round, 39th overall selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Ramholt honed his skills in his homeland.
A speedy defenseman, Ramholt spent a single season with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL before he returned to Switzerland due to the NHL lockout. Upon his return to North America, Ramholt would toil in the AHL with Flames' AHL affiliates and be used in a single NHL game during the 2007-08 season.
In the summer of 2008, Ramholt's time with the Calgary Flames organization came to an end when the club dealt the rearguard to Philadelphia for Kyle Greentree. Ramholt reprted to the Flyers' AHL affiliate for a handful of games before the organization dealt him to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Josh Gratton.
