Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ryan Stone
Ryan Stone was born March 20, 1985 in Calgary, Alberta. The second round, 32nd overall selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Stone honed his skills in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

A strong forechecker, Stone continually increased his offensive output as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings through his four-year tenure. In his final season in Brandon, he led the league in assists (66) and only one player recorded more points than the Calgary, Alberta native. Stone made the leap to the professional ranks of hockey the following year with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre. After a respectable rookie campaign in 2005-06, Stone missed 32 games the following season due to an injury suffered in late November, 2006. He rebounded in 2007-08 however, registering a career-high 39 points and making his NHL debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins in a January 10, 2008 contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On January 17, 2009 Stone was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers along with Dany Sabourin in exchange for goaltender Mathieu Garon.

On July 6, 2010, Stone would switch sides of one of hockey's greatest rivalries when he chose to leave the Oilers as an unrestricted free agent and join the Calgary Flames.
