Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kris Newbury
Kris Newbury was born February 19, 1982 in Brampton, Ontario. San Jose's fifth choice, 139th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Newbury is a graduate of the OHL's Belleville Bulls and Sarnia Sting.

A hard working centreman, Newbury spent five seasons in the OHL playing 306 games collecting 306 points (122 goals, 184 assists). He was signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs in October of 2003 and was sent to the club's AHL affiliate in St. Johns for the season. After toiling in the minors for a pair of seasons, Newbury got his first taste of NHL action when the Leafs dressed him for a December 23, 2006 game against the Washington Capitals.

In the summer of 2009, Newbury's time in Toronto would come to an end. Finding himself a free agent, Kris signed with the perennial powerhouse, Detroit Red Wings.

On March 3, 2010, the NHL trade deadline, Newbury was on the move again. This time traded to the New York Rangers in exchange for Jordan Owens.
