Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matt Ellison
Matt Ellison was born December 8, 1983 in Duncan, British Columbia. The fourth round, 128th overall selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Ellison is a graduate of the BCJHL's Cowichan Valley Capitals.

An offensively gifted forward, Ellison played three seasons (1999-2002) in Cowichan registering 117 points (42-75-117) in his final year with the club before making the jump to the WHL's Red Deer Rebels in 2002-03. In his only season with the club, Ellison tallied 96 points (40-56-96) earning WHL and CHL Rookie of the Year honours before making his professional debut the following year.

In 2003-04, Ellison spent the better part of his rookie season with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals while seeing action in ten games with Chicago. Despite a NHL lock out in 2004-05, Ellison continued to hone his skills in the AHL and saw regular action with Chicago in the early stages of the 2005-06 season before being acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers in December, 2005.

Over two seasons in Philadelphia, Ellison would see action in seven games with the Flyers and spend the majority of his time in the AHL with the Phantoms. In the summer of 2007, the Duncan B.C. native was dealt to the Nashville Predators by the Flyers for future considerations.
