Brandon Segal was born on July 12, 1983 in Richmond, British Columbia. A product of the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators.

On February 26, 2008, Segal was traded along with a 7th round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Jay Leach.

In the summer of 2009, Segal signed a 2-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

On February 11, 2010, Segal was claimed off waivers by the Dallas Stars and wasted no time endearing himself to his Stars teammates and fans. In his debut with the club he scored the game winning goal against the Phoenix Coyotes.

In the summer of 2011, Segal signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.He was later assigned to the club's AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

On February 21, 2012, Segal was on the move again. This time he would be returning to a familiar home, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in exchange for future considerations.
