Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Frans Nielsen
Frans Nielsen was born April 24, 1984 in Herning, Denmark. The New York Islanders' third round, 87th overall selection in the 2002 NHL Draft, Nielsen is a graduate of the Swedish Elite League's Malmo IF and Timra IK.

Known best for his soft hands, Nielsen honed his skills over five years in Sweden before he signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders in 2006. He started the 2006-07 season with the Islander's AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and went on to spend 54 games with the club. That same season, Nielsen made his NHL debut and went on to play in 15 games with the Islanders.

Nielsen broke out during the 2013-14 season where he scored 25 goals and added 33 for and 58 points in 80 games, solidifying himself as an NHL regular.

During the 2015-16 season, Nielson would appear in 81 games for the Islanders, notching 20 goals and adding 32 assists for 52 points. It would be the second time in his career he reached the 20-goal and 50-point plateaus.

On July 1, 2017, Nielson's time with the Islanders would come to an end. He signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Detroit Red Wings and would join the club the following season.

On the international stage, Nielsen has represented Denmark numerous times at the World Championship and was part of the silver medal-winning Team Europe at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
