Peter Kanko was born February 7, 1984 in Pribram, Czech Republic. The third round, 66th overall selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kanko is a graduate of the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.

An offensively gifted forward, Kanko played three seasons in Kitchener registering 205 points (87-118-205) while helping the Rangers capture the 2001 Memorial Cup title. After three strong seasons in the OHL, Kanko made his professional debut with the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester in the latter stages of the 2003-04 season. In six games with the club, Kanko registered four points (1-3-4) before going on to play his first full season with the club in 2004-05.

After one full season of honing his skills in the AHL, Kanko went on to make his NHL debut with Los Angeles during the 2005-06 season.
