Jason Ryznar was born February 19, 1983 in Anchorage, Alaska. The third round, 64th overall selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Ryznar is a graduate of the US Development Program.

After two seasons with the US Development Program, Ryznar enrolled at the University of Michigan in the fall of 2001 and went on to play four years at the school before making his professional debut with the AHL's Albany River Rats in 2005-06. While honing his game in Albany, the foremer Wolverine would see his first NHL action in January of 2006.
