Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Joe Motzko
Joe Motzko was born March 14, 1980 in Bemidji, Minnesota. A free agent signing of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the spring of 2003, Motzko played his junior hockey with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL before enrolling at St. Cloud State in the fall of 1999.

Following a four-year stint at St. Cloud State which saw Motzko tally 142 points (52-90-142), the Bemidji, Minnesota native made his professional debut with Columbus' AHL affiliate in Syracuse in 2003-04, and later on in the season made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets.

In January of 2007, Motzko was part of a four player trade that sent him to the Anaheim Ducks. With the Ducks Motzko appeared in three playoff games en route to the clubs Stanley Cup championship. Shortly after, the native of Bemidjii, Minnesota brought the Stanley Cup home to celebrate with friends and family.

In the off-season, Motzko's short stint with the Anaheim Ducks came to an end as the free agent right winger signed a two-year deal with the Washington Capitals. As a member of the Washington Capitals, Motzko spent most of his time competing with the club's AHL affiliate in Hershey. He tallied 48 points with the club and saw action in eight games with the Caps before the club traded the Bemidji native to the Atlanta Thrashers.
