Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jussi Jokinen
Jussi Jokinen was born April 1, 1983 in Kalajoki, Finland. The sixth round, 192nd overall selection of the Dallas Stars in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Jokinen honed his skills in his homeland with Karpat Oulu of the Finnish Elite League before making his NHL debut in 2005-06.

An offensively gifted forward, Jokinen led his team in goals and points in 2004-05 while ranking second in assists. In 2005-06, the highly skilled forward was a mainstay in the Dallas lineup and was a member of Finland's bronze medal World Championship team. In his second year with the Stars, he was one of three players to play in all 82 games and recorded his 100th NHL career point. However 52 games into his 2007-08 season, Jokinen was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with Mike Smith and Jeff Halpern, in exchange for Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist.

On February 7, 2009 Jokinen was dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Wade Brookbank, Josef Melichar and future considerations. He would have the most productive season of his career in 2009-10, recording 30 goals and 35 assists for the Hurricanes in 81 games. His goal production would fall of slightly the following two seasons, recording seasons of 19 and 12 goals respectively while his assist totals stayed steady in the mid-thirties.

On April 3, 2013, the NHL trade deadline, Jokinen's time in Carolina would come to an end. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for future considerations.

As an unrestricted free agent, Jokinen signed a four year contract with the Florida Panthers on July 1, 2014.

Jokinen would struggle to find his scoring touch during the 2014-15 season. In 81 games, he found the back of the net just eight times. He would rebound the following season, scoring 18 times and adding 42 assists, reaching the 60-point mark for the second time in his career.

In 2016-17, Jokinen would appear in 69 games for the Panthers, scoring 11 times and adding 17 assists. At season's end the club chose to buy out the remaining year of his contract, making the winger an unrestricted free agent. On July 7, 2017, he signed a deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Jokinen would struggle to find his offensive game in Edmonton. He was limited to just one assist in 14 games and on November 14, 2017, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Michael Cammalleri.

After just 18 with the Kings, Jokinen was placed on waivers by the club and subsequently claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He would join the Blue Jackets for just 14 games before being on the move once again. This time traded to the Vancouver Canucks along with Tyler Motte in exchange for Thomas Vanek.

On the international stage, Jokinen represented Finland at the World Junior Championships, the World Championship and the Olympic Games, where he helped his homeland to a bronze medal in 2014.
