Andreas Salomonsson was born December 19, 1973 in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. The 8th choice, 163rd overall selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Salomonsson has spent the majority of his career in the Swedish Elite League.
Following an eight year stint with Modo where he had a career high 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 1998-99, Salomonsson joined Djurgardens IF in 2000-01 and went on to capture his first Swedish Elite League title before being claimed later that summer by the Devils.
On the international stage Salomonsson competed at the 1993 World Junior Championships and for Sweden and at the 2001 World Championships.
Salomonsson made his North American debut in 2001-02, splitting his season between the Devils and the team's AHL affiliate in Albany. Salomonsson started the 2002-03 season with the Devils, but was acquired by the Washington Capitals and split time between the Caps and the AHL's Portland Pirates before opting to return to his homeland for the 2003-04 season. Upon his return to Sweden, Salomosson led his club team Modo in scoring with 39 points (13-26-39) and helped Sweden capture a silver medal at the 2004 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.
