Jaroslav Bednar was born September 11, 1976 in Prague, Czech Republic. The 2nd choice, 51st overall selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Bednar came to North America in 2001-02 after leading the Finnish Elite League in goal scoring and finishing second overall in points in 2000-01 as a member of HIFK Helsinki.

An offensively gifted player, Bednar has always been able to find the back of the net, finishing third in the Finnish League in 1999-2000 with 34 goals and finishing tied for third in the Czech Elite League in 1997-98 with 28 goals.

Upon his arrival in North America, Bednar spent the majority of his first season with the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester tying for fifth in team goal scoring with 16 while playing in 19 games with the parent club. Bednar found a full-time job in the NHL in 2002-03 and spent the early part of the season with the Kings, before being dealt to the Florida Panthers.

In 2003-04, Bednar split the early part of his season with the Panthers and their AHL affiliate in San Antonio before opting to join Omsk Avangard of the Russian Elite League.
