Timofei Shishkanov was born June 10, 1983 in Moscow, Russia. The second round, 33rd overall selection of the Nashville Predators in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Shishkanov honed his skills in Russia before making his North American debut in 2002-03.

An offensively gifted forward, Shishkanov played one season with the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts in 2002-03, registering 82 points (36-46-82) while earning QMJHL First Team All-Star honours and participating in the 2003 Memorial Cup tournament.

On the international stage, Shishkanov won a gold medal with Team Russia at the 2003 World Junior Championship and won gold with its World U-18 team in 2001. In 2003-04 the speedy winger made his professional debut, spending the majority of the season in the AHL helping the Milwaukee Admirals capture the Calder Cup title, while seeing his first NHL action with Nashville in the second half of the season.

Over the course of the next two seasons, Shishkanov continued to hone his skills in the AHL before having his rights dealt to the St. Louis Blues in January, 2006.
