Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Colby Armstrong
Colby Armstrong was born November 23, 1982 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. The first round, 21st overall selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Armstrong is a graduate of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.

A skilled forward, Armstrong played three full seasons with Red Deer registering 185 points (76-109-185) and helping the club capture the 2002 Memorial Cup title. Following an impressive junior career Armstrong went on to play three seasons with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins before making his NHL debut with Pittsburgh during the 2005-06 season. The following season Armstrong became a mainstay in the Penguins line-up, appearing in 80 games with the club and recording 34 points.

In 2007-08 Armstrong suited up in 54 games with the Penguins before he was involved in a blockbuster deal at the NHL trading deadline. The trade sent Armstrong and teammate Erik Christensen, with prospect Angelo Esposito, and a 2008 1st-round draft pick to the Atlanta Thrashers for Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis.

On the international stage, Armstrong captured a gold medal representing his homeland at the 2007 World Championships.

On July 1, 2010 Armstrong would join the Toronto Maple Leafs, signing a three year deal as an unrestricted free agent.
