Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Chris Thorburn
Chris Thorburn was born June 3, 1983 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The second round round, 50th overall selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Thorburn is a graduate of the Canadian Hockey League.

A hard-working forward, Thorburn played parts of four seasons with North Bay/Saginaw of the OHL before finishing his junior career in Plymouth. In four seasons of junior hockey Thorburn registered 203 points (79-124-203) before making his professional debut with Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester in 2003-04. Over the course of the next two seasons Thorburn continued to hone his skills in the AHL before making his NHL debut in 2005-06.

In October of 2006, Thornburn was placed on waivers by the Sabres and claimed shortly after by the Pittsburgh Penguins. After appearing in thirty-nine games with the Penguins, Thorburn was dealt by the club to the Atlanta Thrashers.

Over the next three seasons in Atlanta, the big centreman would provide the Thrashers with his gritty brand of in your face hockey. Each year he would be near or surpass the 100 penalty minute plateau.

Prior to the 2011-12 season, Thorburn moved with the rest of the Thrashers to Winnipeg to become the Winnipeg Jets.

Thornburn would spend the next five years in Winnipeg, appearing in all 82 games in 2015-16. A pending free agent in the summer of 2017, he was left unprotected by the Jets in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft and was subsequently selected by the Vegas Golden Knights. Days later he signed a two-year deal with the St. Louis Blues.
