Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jason Williams
Jason Williams was born August 11, 1980 in London, Ontario. After starring with the OHL Peterborough Petes, including his final two junior seasons when he bested the 70-point plateau, Williams signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 2000.

In his first professional season, Williams played primarily in the AHL, but was a call-up to the Red Wings for five games in 2000-01 and 25 games in 2001-2002 where he was a member of Detroit's Stanley Cup winning team.

Williams continued to hone his skills in the AHL in 2002-03 before earning a regular spot on the Red Wing roster the following year. Following a parts of six seasons with the Red Wings, Williams was dealt to a rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks club a day prior to the NHL trading deadline in 2007.

Over parts of two seasons in Chicago, Williams competed in 63 games and suffered a sports hernia in his 2007-08 campaign which left him out of 35 games. The Blackhawks fell short of entering the playoffs that season and in the off-season Williams signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers.

On January 14, 2009, Williams was traded by the Thrashers to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Clay Wilson and a 6th round draft pick. On August 6, 2009, Williams returned where it all began, inking a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.
