Mark Rycroft was born July 12, 1978 in Penticton, British Columbia. A graduate of the University of Denver, Rycroft signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues following the 1999-2000 season.

The Penticton, B.C. native was runner-up in the Rookie of the Year honours as a member of the BCJHL's Nanaimo Clippers before spending the next three years at the University of Denver scoring 51 goals while adding 52 assists for 103 points. A member of the All-WCHA Rookie Team in 1997-98, Rycroft led all WCHA rookies in goals with 15 and finished second in points with 32.

In his first season of professional hockey in 2000-01, Rycroft notched 24 goals and added 26 assists for 50 points for the Worcester IceCats finishing sixth in AHL rookie scoring, and capturing IceCats Rookie of the Year honours.

Rycroft went on to spend the better part of the next two seasons in Worcester while seeing limited action with St. Louis. In 2003-04, Rycroft played a more prominent role with the Blues, registering 21 points (9-12-21) in 71 games.

Following parts of three seasons with the St.Louis Blues, Rycroft signed as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche in July, 2006. His stint in Colorado however was short lived. After only sixty-six games with the Aves, Rycroft was dealt by the club on January, 22 2008 to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
