Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Paul Gaustad
Paul Gaustad was born February 3, 1982 in Fargo, North Dakota. The seventh round, 220th overall selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Gaustad is a graduate of the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks.

Prior to joining Portland in 99-2000, Gaustad started the season playing for a Tier II team in Burnaby, B.C. of the BCJHL. In his three seasons with the Winter Hawks, Gaustad registered 135 points (53-82-135) before making his professional debut with the Sabres AHL affiliate in Rochester in 2002-03. Upon his arrival in Rochester, the Fargo native registered 53 points (14-39-53) in 80 games while seeing his first action with the parent club.

Following two steady seasons in Rochester, the centreman was a mainstay in the Buffalo Sabres line up throughout the 2005-06 season appearing in 78 games.

In the seasons to follow, Gaustad would establish himself as a solid, two-way, gritty forward. Playing the majority of time in a checking role, he put up solid offensive numbers and provided size to a small Sabre club.

In the summer of 2008, Gaustad was re-signed by the Sabres to a 4 year contract extension worth $9.2 million.

On February 27, 2012, Gausted's time in Buffalo would come to an end. After spending his entire professional career in the Sabres' organization he was shipped to the Nashville Predators along with a fourth round pick in exchange for a first round selection.
