Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matthew Lombardi
Matthew Lombardi was born January 29, 1979 in Montreal, Quebec. The third round, 90th overall selection of the Calgary Flames in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Lombardi is a graduate of the QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres.

An offensively gifted forward, Lombardi played four seasons with Victoriaville, tallying 130 points (57-73-130) while leading his team to the Memorial Cup final in 2002, only lose out to the WHL's Kootenay Ice. In 2002-03, the Montreal native made his professional debut with the Flames AHL affiliate in Saint-John scoring 46 points (25-21-46) before making his NHL debut in 2003-04. In his first full season with the Flames in 2003-04, Lombardi tallied 29 points (16-13-29) in 79 games while helping the Flames clinch their first playoff birth since the 1995-96 season.

On the international stage, Lombardi captured a gold-medal representing his homeland at the 2007 World Championships.

On March 4, 2009, the NHL trade deadline, the speedy forward was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes as part of a package of players and draft picks that saw the Flames acquire Olli Jokinen.

On July 2, 2010, Lombardi was on the move again. This time the speedy centre would sign a four year deal with the Nashville Predators as an unrestricted free agent. However he would appear in just two games for the Predators, missing most of the 2010-11 season due to a concussion.

On July 3, 2011, Lombardi was traded along with Cody Franson to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney.

After just one season in Toronto, where the speedster notched eight goals and 10 assists, Lombardi was once again traded. This time he was sent back to the Phoenix Coyotes, where he had previously had his most productive season, in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

Lombardi's second stint in the desert would be a short one. He appeared in 21 games for the Coyotes during the lockout shortened 2012-13 season, scoring four goals to go along with four assists, before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks at the NHL traded deadline.
